Chateau Thomas Winery: Come Have a Taste in Plainfield
Located on the west side of Indianapolis, Chateau Thomas Winery features a tasting room, wine bar, veranda area, gift shop and banquet hall. The Indiana winery’s tasting room and wine bar, where complimentary tastings are available to all adults age 21 and over, are open to the public daily. Nicknamed “The Wine Doctor,” the founder of Chateau Thomas Winery is Dr. Charles Thomas, a retired OB/GYN who spent years working in Indianapolis health and has delivered thousands of babies around Indy throughout his career. Dr. Thomas began making wine as a hobby and decided to expand his passion for wine into a Plainfield business in 1984. Now, the winery is celebrating their 25 year anniversary. The winery’s long history has become a rich part of Indianapolis culture.
Chateau Thomas Winery products are all made from west coast Vinifera grapes, grown in California, Oregon and Washington state. The grapes are shipped to the winery, where the winemaking process continues. The grapes are fermented, bottled and sold at the Plainfield, Indiana facility, located near the Indianapolis International Airport.

On the grounds of the Chateau Thomas Winery, customers can sample wines, enjoy a bottle on the veranda or schedule a tour of the facility. The winery also has a unique gift store, where customers can do some Plainfield shopping for wine accessories, glassware, clothing, gourmet foods, books on wine, gift baskets and many other Chateau Thomas products.
The winery has received national recognition, most recently for the Slender wine collection. Three specialty wines from this collection were included in a gift basket for celebrities at the 2009 Academy Awards. The Slender wines are said to be the only sugar-free wine. Instead of sugar, the wine has a natural sweetener that is free of carbohydrates and adds no extra calories to the wine.

Chateau Thomas wines have collected more than 400 medals and national awards in its history. In the past, Chateau Thomas wine has been served to several local and national politicians, including the governor of Indiana and the president of the United States. For regular wine drinkers, Chateau Thomas has a featured Wine Club, where members can receive special discounts, recipes, VIP event invitations and personalized samples.
Aside from the Plainfield location, Chateau Thomas Winery has a tasting room located in Nashville, Indiana, where wines are available for sample and purchase. More than 200 retail locations sell Chateau Thomas wine, and it is also available for order on the web. Chateau Thomas wine can be found in many Indianapolis restaurants as well.
