Plainfield Children: Water Parks, Sports, and More

The town of Plainfield, Indiana, a suburb of state capital Indianapolis, offers a wide range of activities and services for Plainfield children. During the summer months, one of the most popular things to do in Plainfield is a trip to Splash Island Family Waterpark. Splash Island is sponsored by the Plainfield Parks and Recreation Department and features waterslides, whirlpools, a lazy river, and tons of exciting water-based activities. Built up an appetite after a long day of swimming, diving, and general mayhem? Visit the SnacKabana, a refreshment booth that serves hot dogs, jumbo pretzels, and more. It’s a great Plainfield attraction that keeps residents and visitors alike coming back for more.

The Plainfield Optimist Club has long been a benefactor of Plainfield sports, particularly sports for kids. Plainfield is growing because of its excellent proximity to Indianapolis and the Indianapolis International Airport, so the current Optimist Club facilities can no longer handle the amount of participants going in and out of its programs. To solve this problem, Plainfield is in the process of constructing the Plainfield Youth Athletic Complex for the area’s kids.

This complex will allow Plainfield children aged 4 to 18 to experience the fun, teamwork, and responsibility of organized sports. The facility will even include resources and programs for disabled children. Currently, the Optimist Club runs football, soccer, baseball, and youth cheerleading programs out of Lovell Field. When the Youth Athletic Complex officially opens its doors in 2010, even more programs will be open to Plainfield children.

In the tradition of the Indianapolis Public Library and other libraries across Indiana, the Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library runs a variety of educational programs for Plainfield children. The Children’s Room is a large, colorful space decorated with banners, posters, and drawings in the Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library. The Children’s Room has tons of books for children, board games so kids can interact with a friend, and special reading areas where kids can curl up with a good book and relax.

The Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library also runs a number of Plainfield events for children. Readings, demonstrations, and performances are all commonplace at the library. Readings usually feature a snack and craft time, giving your kids plenty of chances to fill their stomachs and show off their budding creativity. For Halloween, the library is even hosting a special trick or treat night where kids can wear their costumes and earn candy in a safe, friendly environment.
