The Coachman Restaurant and Lounge in Plainfield, Indiana came out of the owners’ previous success with a place called “Coach & Horses Restaurant & Pub” in Indianapolis, just a few miles away. The Coachman expanded on the original concept, duplicating everything that worked the first time and then going the extra mile. The result is a family-owned Plainfield restaurant where people love to go to enjoy a great menu and extensive list of quality spirits.
The idea at the Coachman Restaurant and Lounge is to create a haven for the diner, a place where guests feel comfortable just sitting back and taking a break from the everyday stress of living. The building has a warm inviting design and a huge, comfortable porch for outdoor dining. Situated along a waterfront, it also has some nice landscaping and an emerald lawn around it.
The menu at The Coachman is full of American favorites, from chicken fingers and fried cheese sticks to cheese and bacon potato skins and barbecued baby back ribs. You can get a mouth-watering Black Angus steak and jumbo fried shrimp combination special there for under $19, real fish and chips with cole slaw for under $9 and baked homemade lasagna for under $12, to name just a few dishes.
Watching your weight or cholesterol? The Coachman Restaurant and Lounge offers a very nice “Lighter Portions” menu with items such as broiled white cod fish for under $9 and a perfect twice-baked potato for only $1.99. Other favorites are the house prime rib and the char-broiled boneless chicken breast with popular side dishes. Seafood specialties include hand-breaded catfish fillets for under $12 and scallops cooked just the way you prefer them.
At The Coachman, Plainfield kids have their choice of favorites such as macaroni and cheese, grilled ham and cheese, hamburgers and spaghetti with meatballs.
Daily specials at the Coachman have their fans marking their calendars. Try the enchiladas with chips and salsa for under $7 for lunch on a Tuesday, the seafood fettuccine for under $15 as your Thursday dinner, and the jumbo ravioli with homemade meatballs for under $13 on a Friday evening.
The Coachman Restaurant and Lounge is one of the few spots in the greater southwest Indianapolis area that schedules live music on Saturdays. Stop in and hear Crawdaddy’s or Katphish and Da Bottom Feeders some Saturday night; it’s unlike all the other live Indianapolis music.
Few other restaurants in Plainfield can offer as well-rounded and entirely pleasant an experience as that which the Coachman serves up every day in the way of great food, drink and Plainfield nightlife.
