Perhaps the most famous Plainfield event is the Quaker Day Parade, which takes place every fall. Plainfield was founded by Quakers in the mid 1800’s, and much of the town still retains this heritage. Plainfield sports teams are named after the town’s founders, Plainfield education institutions use the iconic Quaker as a mascot, and the Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library retains records of the town’s long Quaker history.
As a result, a host of Plainfield organizations participate in a parade through downtown Plainfield every year around October. The parade begins at Plainfield Middle School and winds through Main Street and the rest of Plainfield before returning to the middle school. The parade features marching bands, motorcycles, Plainfield restaurant vendors, and more. The Quaker Day Parade even has a pumpkin decorating contest for expressing your creative side.
