The Sketch Pad Art Studio, located on Main Street in Plainfield, Indiana, is a destination for the artistically inclined from Plainfield and other nearby Indianapolis suburbs, such as Brownsburg and Avon. Only a few minutes away from the Circle City, this gallery exhibits original work by Plainfield artists and offers regular art classes, as well as summer art camps for Plainfield kids.
Throughout the year, The Sketch Pad Art Studio‘s art instructors take their students through the basics of drawing, how to use different media, and sculpting in clay. Students have the added incentive of seeing their work exhibited on the walls of the gallery. It’s an excellent way to make a start in the Plainfield arts scene.
Two professional artists head up The Sketch Pad Art Studio, Colleen Carter and Mary Ann Western. Colleen has been teaching art to Indiana kids for nigh on ten years. Mary Ann studied art at the Herron School of Art & Design and at Purdue University in West Lafayette, where she took her Bachelor’s degree. She holds an Indiana license to teach visual arts to children K-12, and was an elementary school teacher in the Plainfield education system for twelve years.
The facility itself is spacious and user-friendly, with two stories, a practical studio, plenty of light and wall space, and ten extra acres outside, where art classes are sometimes held.
