This bastion of Plainfield shopping has everything you need to be up to date on the latest fashion, gizmos, and media. Catch a movie at Rave Motion Pictures, try on outfits at any one of the mall’s clothing boutiques, and listen to some live Indianapolis music at the mall’s performing arts center. A visit to the Metropolis Shopping Center is a major thing to do in Plainfield, and rightfully so; this mall can stand toe to toe with some of the better Indianapolis shopping malls.

A thing to do for history buffs in Plainfield is a visit to the Historic National Road, now known as U.S. Route 40. The National Road was one of the first major highways in the country; construction began in 1811 in Maryland, but halted in Illinois twenty-eight years later when funding ran out. Later on in the 1800’s, construction resumed, and the National Road became the first interstate in the United States. Now U.S. Route 40, the National Road is the only completely federally funded road, and it runs from New Jersey all the way to California. It has been designated an All-American Road since 2002.
During the fall, one of the biggest Plainfield events is the Quaker Day Parade, a celebration of the town’s heritage. Plainfield was founded by Quakers in the 1800’s, and much of the town still retains their influence: Plainfield High School’s mascot is a Quaker. As a result, watching the Quaker Day Parade is a fun thing to do in Plainfield. The parade begins at Plainfield Middle School and winds through Main Street and the rest of Plainfield before returning to the middle school. Come to the Quaker Day Parade to see the town’s policemen, firefighters, marching bands, motorcycles, and more journey through downtown Plainfield.

Though it may be a small town in Central Indiana, there are still a large number of things to do in Plainfield.
